Beauty books worth reading - for organic skin care products worth trying head to Thalia Skin

Here at Thalia we adore soaking up new ideas, and while we all love a great Instagram post, for me, there is nothing quite like diving into a good book, to deliver deeper understanding.

So whether for fun or more serious stimulation, being well informed about a subject, especially if we’re consuming it, deserves our educated attention. With our whole beauty philosophy in mind, we have selected the best books we think are worth reading this weekend, sure to help you blossom.

Slow Beauty – Shel Pink
The slow beauty movement describes a fast-growing sub-culture of beauty therapists who have lost faith in the quick-fix, which often includes invasive procedures and toxic products that are found in the beauty industry. They are instead drawn to a holistic approach to skincare with a focus on dermo-nutrition, wellness and skin health beginning first from the inside out.

Similar to the Slow Food Movement, it reflects a shift in values away from fast food convenience, towards slower, deeper and truer ideals. It encourages you to redefine “Beauty” as you know it, it’s about turning inward and discovering what makes you unique and inspires you. When all is well on the inside, you reflect this on the outside. It also includes information about the power of rituals, embracing the seasons, and the healing benefits of nature.

The Beauty Guide – Dr Libby Weaver
This extraordinary nutritionist has been an unwavering source of inspiration, in the quest to heal my skin. This is not your typical beauty book. While it dives deeply into the nutritional needs for healthy hair, skin, nails and biochemistry, what we truly adore, is the spotlight she shines on our beliefs and what beauty is really about.

Her take-home message encourages us to deeply listen to our bodies, nurture ourselves and prioritise self-care. Because self-care is not only needed for beauty, but is also fundamental to leading a long and beautiful life.

Food to Make you Glow – Lola Berry
The newest addition to Lola’s line-up of best-selling cookbooks, this little gem includes over ninety delicious whole food recipes to get you glowing again.

Divided into six themes covering happiness – immunity, calming, energy, weight, detox and beauty. She begins each chapter with a focus on her favourite lifestyle recommendations, filled with herbal teas, exercise and high vibe activities.

Beauty Food – Lola Berry
Yet another book by Lola we love, Beauty Food is all about recipes to make your skin glow, hair shine and nails strong. But that’s not all! She also covers yoga poses for beauty, topical recipes such as Avocado for face masks, and serious self-care inspiration!

The Atlas of Beauty – Mihaela Noroc
When it comes to beauty here in the west, we’re often faced with a one-size-fits-all-approach. This book offers a refreshing perspective from intrepid Romanian photographer Mihaela Noroc. She quit her job and engaged in a mighty multi-year project, travelling the globe to document women surrounded by their culture. Her ultimate aim was to reveal that beauty is everywhere, in different forms.

This luminous collection of 500 portraits celebrates our planet’s glorious diversity through direct, intimate, and soulful images of women from different ages, ethnicities, religions, sexualities, gender identities and disabilities.

She believes beauty should not have a definition, and as she sees it, “beauty is about being yourself, natural and authentic.”

Eat Beautiful – Wendy Rowe
World-renowned beauty and make-up expert Wendy Rowe shares over 70 easy and delicious recipes specifically designed to feed your skin with the nutrients it needs to glow.

Split into four sections this stunning book includes insider tips and tricks for outer and inner beauty. We adore her detailed nutritional information on each carefully chosen beauty food, through sections that cover seasonal recommendations. Released back in 2016, it still continues to be a companion in my kitchen!

Mindful Beauty – Estelle Lefebure
Written by Estelle Lefebure, this former french supermodel shares her formula, for looking and feeling great in her fifties, drawing from the natural cues of nature and her practice of traditional Chinese medicine.

Now a mother of three, she understands the importance of serious self-care inside and out to maintain her healthy glow all year round. Through her step-by-step natural beauty and health tips, nutrition, recipes from some of the world’s top chefs, and fitness activities, she provides a holistic and mindful philosophy for aging gracefully.

“I don’t believe in age – I believe in energy. Don’t let your age dictate what you do or don’t do.” Estelle Lefebure.

Radical Beauty – Deepak Chopra & Kimberley Snyder

When a spiritual teacher and a nutritionist collaborate to create a book about beauty, you can be sure it's going to be more than just skin deep. Equal parts educational and inspirational, this power couple offer their support through the following Radical Beauty pillars:-

Pillar 1: Internal Nourishment
Pillar 2: External Nourishment
Pillar 3: Peak Beauty Sleep
Pillar 4: Primal Beauty
Pillar 5: Beautiful Movement
Pillar 6: Spiritual Beauty

At over 300 pages, this book ticks almost every beauty box, covering nutrition, to Ayurvedic rituals, movement, remedies, supplements, and emotional wellbeing.

Most of all we love their take-home message, that it’s time to redefine beauty. They also believe if you feel beautiful, you will look beautiful. Each of us has our own highest potential that is completely unique, and there is no need to compare ourselves to others in order to feel beautiful.
