Christmas Skin Survival Guide Part 2 - At Thalia Skin find out which facial skin care products can help

Now that you’ve been filling your love tank with additional nutrients and antioxidants, your skin will be in tip-top shape, and better equipped to bounce back from any amount of excess jolliness you may want to throw its way.

Which brings us to the big day. What can you do before you head out to bring it back into balance and ensure the glow effect!

Prep Your Skin
Before a big night to help that glow along, it’s a great idea to exfoliate or mask. For me personally, I adore using our purity polish. Not only does it make my skin petal-soft, but it also creates a smooth surface (similar to a smooth canvas) before applying my make-up (or work of art!).

You can create a simple exfoliant or mask at home using just a few simple pantry products and build on this collection over time. I would love to share with you some of my most simple, time tested DIY favourites to prep your skin for the big day.

Make sure you cleanse your face properly before applying an exfoliant or mask, and never leave a mask to entirely dry, as it draws too much moisture from the skin, especially if you are using clay. I would highly recommend a facial steam before application of a mask, to assist with clearing congestion and ensure deep penetration. Mixing a mask with an emollient such as honey, our Awakening Serum, Cleansing Truth or yoghurt will provide the additional moisture you need to prevent dryness.

The Land of Oats and Honey – Exfoliant/Mask for all skin types
This is an oldie but a goodie! Honey is not to be underestimated in skincare, it is a powerful humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture. It is a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids and active enzymes that encourage exfoliation, while containing powerful anti-microbial and medicinal properties. The nutrient-dense profile of honey nourishes, soothes and hydrates skin. Oats are a gentle exfoliant, sloughing away dead skin cells, while soothing redness, inflammation and providing moisture.

  • 1/4 Cup Rolled Oats
  • 2 Tablespoons raw cold-pressed honey
  • ½ Teaspoon Cinnamon

Grind up dry oats in a blender, and pour into a small bowl, pour over honey and cinnamon, then mix. Apply to face and leave for approx 10 minutes. Massage into skin for 1 minute, before removing with warm water and a face cloth.

The Avocado Cure – Exfoliant/Mask for Dry Skin

Add hydration back into dry skin, with this moisturising mask. Avocados are a great source of Vitamins C, E, K & B-6, minerals, beta-carotene and essential fatty acids, that deeply nourish and provide moisture. The lactic acid in yoghurt will dissolve dead skin cells, the oil will provide deep hydration, together with additional nutrients and antioxidants, while honey brings the skin back into balance.

  • ½ Avocado
  • 2 Teaspoons natural yoghurt
  • 1 Teaspoon Cleansing truth, Awakening serum or olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon honey

Apply to clean face for approx 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water to reveal soft, plump skin.

Polish with Papaya – Exfoliant/Mask to brighten
If you are looking for a brighter complexion, this one has your name all over it. Papaya is rich in the enzyme papain, a natural exfoliant that is known to lighten and brighten skin. Papaya has a deep-cleansing action that will assist with clearing congestion and balancing skin tone. Lemon is naturally astringent, assisting with oil production, reducing large pores and reducing pigmentation.

  • ¼ Papaya
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • ½ Teaspoon lemon juice

In a blender place papaya, honey and lemon juice, leave for approx 10 minutes, unveiling skin that has hit the reset button. Do not use this mask if you have sensitive skin, as the enzymes may irritate. Always test patch on your inner elbow first, to ensure it is safe.

Buffing your Body
All this love shouldn’t just be reserved for the face. If the occasion calls for dressy, you can buff away dead skin cells to reveal skin as soft as a kitten with this simple no brainer recipe body scrub:

  • ½ cup ground coffee
  • ½ cup soft brown sugar
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup honey

Mix up in a bowl and slather all over, giving yourself a minute to massage all the goodness into skin. Rinse off in the shower and rejoice in supple skin.

To your blossoming xxx
